angels and movements - looks can be deceiving - workshop 2

brainstorm:
- high angel - makes the character "other wybie" look small, week, vulnerable
- POV - "other mother" - dominant and powerful
- medium shot - gives us some ideas of the background but not full
- audience feels - powerful, we are looking down on wybie throught the "other mothers'' POV
- sad, worried for wybie - he looks small, sad, innocent - the first character in the other world to suggest something is not right

- director purpose - to make us feel sorry for wybie
- makes audience think that maybe the ''Other mother" isn't so nice - foreshadowing

paragraph:
in the shot with the "other wybie" and the "other mother", high angel shots  are used effectively to show the theme looks can be 'deceiving'. this is demonstrated through a high angel shot from the point of view of the other mother. she is looking down the front porch steps at the scared other wybie. this makes the audience fell worried / sorry for wybie and makes the other mother seem / feel powerful. the purpose of this scene was to make the audience think that maybe the other mother isn't as nice after all. combined with the use of lighting, wybie is in a warm light but surrounded by darkness, the directer has created an atmosphere of caution - somethings not right. this reminds the viewer of the later scene where coraline is looking up at the other mother in horror and she throws her through a magical portal into a locked room. this shows that looks can be deceiving because the other mother wasn't nice like coraline thought

brainstorm:
- the camera is tilted and looking at coraline creepily
- the camera angel is called a dutch tilt  - a dutch tilt is achieved by tilting the camera so the horizon is no longer level. used judiciously,it can provide an unusual or dramatic perspective.
-the viewers probably feel creeped out because the doll is spying on her because when we see the doll we know that the doll was watching her because it was on the same angel and it was when coraline looked at it
-the directer did this to make the audience either feel scared or to entertain them or both.
- the lighting in the photo is dark, half wall half coraline, a tiny bit of light above her head

paragraph:

in this photo the doll is watching coraline this shot is called DUTCH TILT. This is demonstrated through the dutch tilt shot when the doll is watching over coraline. The doll is looking at coraline creepily and she didnt notice until about 10 seconds after. This makes the audience think that the doll is watching her because the other mother has button eyes and the doll has eyes. The purpose of this scene was to let the audience know that the doll was watching her. combined with the use of lighting, it was dark and we could see coraline on one half of the screen but the other half was a wall. The directer has created an atmosphere of caution - something is watching coraline.

arthritis

what are the causes of arthritis
A reduction in the normal amount of this cartilage tissue cause some forms of arthritis. Normal wear and tear causes OA, one of the most common forms of arthritis. An infection or injury to the joints can exacerbate this natural breakdown of cartilage tissue.

can everyone get arthritis
Not everyone develops osteoarthritis. It is not an inevitable condition. Risk factors increase the likelihood you will develop osteoarthritis, but people can develop the disease who have none of the known risk factors.

who is most likely to get arthritis
Age. The risk of many types of arthritis — including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout — increases with age. Your sex. Women are more likely than men to develop rheumatoid arthritis, while most of the people who have gout, another type of arthritis, are men.

what are the two most common types of arthritis
Two common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a painful, degenerative joint disease that often involves the hips, knees, neck, lower back, or small joints of the hands.

  4. If your job requires a lot of pushing, pulling, or lifting of heavy objects, take precautions to avoid injury to your joints.

how is arthritis treated
Treatment of arthritis generally includes rest, occupational or physical therapy, exercise, drugs, and sometimes surgery to correct joint damage. Treatments for osteoarthritis generally can help relieve pain and stiffness, but the disease may continue to progress.

workshop 1 unpacking things and ideas

theme/idea - something that links throughout the story

"looks can be deceiving"
- things aren't always what they seem

EXAMPLE 1 = the beldam / other mother
- she starts off good and then ends up evil / soul eater / metal spider demon
- shows theme because the other mother changes over time without the audience and Coraline not noticing
- important to the story because it helps the audience understand Coralines choice when she realises that having everything perfect won't make her happy.

EXAMPLE 2 = other world vs the real world
the other world is a perfect web / trap to catch coraline whereas the real world is boring but safe
- shows theme because even though the other world seems better in every way, the real world is actually better / safer because it isn't a trap.
- important for her audience to understand why coraline goes back into the real world.

Statement - in coraline, themes and ideas are used effectively

Evidence - for instance, "looks can be deceiving" is shown through the character of the 'Other Mother" the other mother starts out nice but is revealed to be a soul devouring demon.

eXplanation - this makes the audience feel that we shouldnt trust things or people that seem perfect at first glance

eXplanation - this was done to make us feel weary or develop a sence of caution towards a new situation

eXplanation - coinciding with this is the use of colour to show the "other mother" is becoming more evil, at the start she is surrended by warm colours that makes  us feel safe but by the end it is dark with neon green.

your link - this theme is also shown through the changes in the other world as it is revealed to be a spider web design to catch coraline

How hands move

Movements of the hand are mostly started by muscles in the forearm. Only the thin tendons of these muscles are found directly in the hand: the extensor tendons used for stretching the hand run through the back of the hand to the tips of the fingers, and the flexor (bending) tendons run through the palms to the fingers.
