Athletics day story summery - Patricia grace 

genre: short story

this story is about a girl and the rest of the school doing athletics day and they do all of the sport things you do on athletics and the last thing the school did was sprints and these girls versed each other and the fastest girl usually would win but this other girl over took her and then she won, before the finals the 2nd main girl was sprinting and the main girl wasn't and so at the finals the main girl won because she saved up her energy and sprinted for her life.

my thoughts on this is it was a pretty good story, nice and short and easy to write about, overall it was good and i would read it again.

Spirituals are songs that were sung by slaves to give them hope and give them secret messages like the song wade in the water that told the people to wade in the water and because the dogs can't sniff them out when they swim in the water. 

These songs were also used by Harriet Tubman who was an escaped enslaved woman that used songs like these to tell others that it's safe, where to go or how to get there. She used the underground railway to which was a connected network of tunnels and safe houses that were used to transport slaves up north where they would be free. 

One spiritual is wade in the water which tells                                                                                          the slaves to wade in the water to escape from the dogs.
